Heinrich Schradieck

Teachers: for violin; father; Hubert Léonard (Brussels Conservatoire, 1854-8); Ferdinand David (Leipzig, 1859-61). For composition: Grädner, Marxsen (in Hamburg); E. F. Richter (Leipzig).

Mentor: Teresa Milanollo (heard him play as a boy, financed his lessons in Brussels).

Associates: Ferdinand Laub, Engelbert Röntgen, Anton Rubinstein, Carl Reinecke, Edvard Grieg, Amalie Joachim, Anton Door.

Professional Appointments: concertmaster, Reinthaler Concerts, Bremen (1863); teacher at Moscow Conservatoire (1864-8); concertmaster, Hamburg Philharmonic Society(1869-74); professor at Leipzig Conservatoire, and concertmaster of Leipzig Gewandhaus and Theatre orchestras (1874-82); professor at Cincinnati Cellege of Music (1883-9); concertmaster, Hamburg Philharmonic Society, and teacher at Conservatory (1889-98); professor at National Conservatoire, New York (from 1898); professor at Broad Street Conservatyoire, Philadelphia (from 1899); teacher at American Institute of Applied Music, New York (1912).

Chamber ensembles: Quartet at Leipzig Gewandhaus - violin 2, Friedrich Georg Haubold; from c. 1878 Robert Bolland; viola, Julius Thümer; cello, Carl Schröder; from 1880, Alwin Schröder. Schradieck alternated as leader at the Gewandhaus chamber concerts with Engelbert Röntgen.

Pupils: Maud Powell, Ottokar Nováček, Theodore Spiering, John Dunn.
