b. Kulmbach (Bavaria), 27.7.1832; d. Dresden, April, 1918.

Teachers: Johannes Frölich, J. G. Bratsch (a Spohr pupil); in Würzburg, before 1850; Charles de Bériot (violin), and F. J. Fétis (theory), Brussels Conservatoire (1850-51).

Associates: Hubert Léonard, Liszt, Goldmark, Albert Dietrich, Sterndale Bennett, Marie Krebs-Breuning (pianist).

Professional Appointments: Professor at Brussels Conservatoire (deputising for Léonard) 1851; Concertmaster in Munich (1853); Second Concertmaster in Dresden (1861-73), First Concertmaster (1873-89); Professor, Dresden Conservatory (1861-77)

Chamber ensembles: quartet in Dresden, with Ferdinand Hällweck, Louis Göhring, and Freidrich Grützmacher (sen.).

Pupils: Fritz Seitz, Otto Hohlfeld, Richard Kaden, Christian Frederik Hilmer.
