This edition of Beethoven's String Trios replaced Ferdinand David's edition of about 1868. It was newly engraved although it largely follows the page layout of the older edition. This edition still named Ferdinand David as editor, although a significant number of the performance markings were changed. Since David had died thirty years earlier, these were clearly not his changes. The changes may have arisen partly from personal preferences, but they may also suggest changing technical and aesthetic attitudes. Places where differences occur have been annotated in the scans of the 1868 edition (pl. no. 4902).
